Why start with these Portuguese words?

Portuguese opens two continents — Portugal and Brazil — plus growing communities across Africa, making it one of the most useful languages you can learn. If you know any Spanish, you will recognise much of the vocabulary above, but Portuguese has its own music: nasal sounds written with a tilde (não, mãe) and a softer, more flowing rhythm. The decks cover the essential first vocabulary — greetings, numbers, food, travel — and one detail worth learning early: "thank you" agrees with the speaker (obrigado if you are male, obrigada if female).
